Start with the assembly
Describe what is being insulated: a straight pipe, duct, tank, vessel or fitting. For pipe jacketing, provide the finished outside diameter over the insulation, alongside the pipe size and insulation thickness.
Define the metal and surface
- Required alloy or metal grade and temper.
- Metal thickness, width, sheet dimensions or roll length.
- Smooth, stucco, corrugated or specified external coating.
- Internal moisture-retarder type and thickness, when required.
- Approved product standards, drawings and document requirements.
Keep the moisture layers distinct
An internal moisture retarder on the metal jacket and a vapour-control layer in a cold insulation system serve different roles. Ask your designer to specify the full assembly, including joints and penetrations, rather than treating the metal backing as a replacement for the vapour-control design.
Finish with purchasing details
State quantities and units, required delivery location, requested date, packaging needs and whether substitutions may be proposed. Ask the supplier to identify deviations clearly in the offer.
This is a procurement checklist. Final material selection and system design should follow your engineer's specification and the selected manufacturer's current technical data.
