Aluminium coil weight and length
Coil weight per metre = thickness (mm) × width (mm) × 0.00271 kg. Common insulation-cladding coils:
| Coil size | Weight per metre | Length per tonne |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 mm × 1000 mm | 1.35 kg/m | 738 m per 1,000 kg |
| 0.6 mm × 1000 mm | 1.63 kg/m | 615 m per 1,000 kg |
| 0.7 mm × 1000 mm | 1.90 kg/m | 527 m per 1,000 kg |
| 0.8 mm × 1000 mm | 2.17 kg/m | 461 m per 1,000 kg |
| 1 mm × 1000 mm | 2.71 kg/m | 369 m per 1,000 kg |
| 0.7 mm × 1220 mm | 2.31 kg/m | 432 m per 1,000 kg |
| 0.8 mm × 1220 mm | 2.64 kg/m | 378 m per 1,000 kg |
| 1 mm × 1220 mm | 3.31 kg/m | 302 m per 1,000 kg |
Need a smaller quantity than a full parent coil? CladdingMart supplies baby aluminium coils cut to your weight or length.
Why weight matters when you buy aluminium in the UAE
UAE suppliers quote aluminium coils per kilogram and cut sheets per piece. Converting between the two lets you compare quotations on the same basis, check delivered weights against invoices and estimate crane and transport loads. See the aluminium sheet price guide for what else to include in an enquiry.
Metal densities used
| Aluminium (1xxx, 3xxx, 5xxx alloys) | 2.71 g/cm³ (2,710 kg/m³) |
| Stainless steel 304 | 7.93 g/cm³ |
| Stainless steel 316 | 8.00 g/cm³ |
| Galvanised / mild steel | 7.85 g/cm³ |
| Copper | 8.96 g/cm³ |
Aluminium weight questions
How do you calculate the weight of an aluminium sheet?
Weight (kg) = thickness (mm) x width (m) x length (m) x 2.71. A 2 mm sheet of 1.22 x 2.44 m weighs 2 x 1.22 x 2.44 x 2.71 = 16.1 kg. The calculator above does this for any size and also for stainless steel, galvanised steel and copper.
What is the density of aluminium used in the calculator?
2.71 g/cm³ (2,710 kg/m³), the standard figure for 1xxx, 3xxx and 5xxx series alloys. Actual alloy densities range from about 2.66 to 2.80 g/cm³, so quoted weights are typically within 2 to 3 percent.
How do I convert an aluminium coil weight to length?
Length (m) = coil weight (kg) ÷ (thickness mm x width mm x 0.00271). A 1,000 kg coil of 0.7 mm x 1000 mm contains about 527 m. Choose the Coil option above.
Does chequered plate weigh more than plain sheet?
Yes. The raised pattern adds roughly 0.4 to 0.6 kg/m² to the flat-thickness weight. The calculator adds a 10 percent pattern allowance when you select chequered plate; confirm exact weights with the mill certificate.
Can CladdingMart quote by weight or by sheet?
Either. UAE aluminium is commonly quoted per kilogram for coils and per sheet for cut sizes. Use the calculator to convert, then send the enquiry with your preferred unit.
